Our experiences and events engage, educate, inspire, influence and connect Members and stakeholders on the pressing energy issues of the day.
By curating a range of new, relevant experiences, we give our communities access to the practical knowledge they need to achieve impact as they move towards secure, affordable and inclusive energy transition.
The Council’s experiences and events convene, connect and catalyse over 9,000 energy leaders from 80+ countries – and our reach is growing every year.
We run a number of high profile global events including the:
- triennial World Energy Congress
- annual World Energy Week
- World Energy Leaders’ Summit
Our global network also connects through a range of digital and communication platforms that enable new ways of working, collaborating and innovating. For example, we conduct webinars and interactive workshops for the Council’s Members and Partners.
Numerous regional and national events are organised by the Council’s Member Committees, focusing specifically on regional and national energy issues.
As one of the world’s most influential energy organisations, we regularly speak and share insights at key international events, such as Clean Energy Ministerial, United Nations (UN) Conference of the Parties (COP), St Petersburg International Economic Forum and the UN’s Sustainable Energy for All forum.
World Energy Congress
World Energy Week is the Council’s annual event that brings together our impact communities from across the globe. Hosted by a Member Committee, participants come from all parts of the world and represent national, regional and global energy systems and sectors.
The event includes a mix of internal member meetings, public-facing conferences with top speakers covering key energy issues and CEO and ministerial roundtables. By coming together, participants engage in strategic dialogue and experiences covering the most impactful opportunities, challenges and solutions shaping energy futures and successful energy transitions.
World Energy Week
The Council’s highly respected flagship event – the World Energy Congress – is held every three years. It brings together heads of state, energy ministers, business leaders, researchers, practitioners and representatives from international organisations and civil society to drive forward the energy transition agenda.
“A transformative approach to energy is critical to success. Achieving our energy goals, including universal access, energy efficiency and renewable energy will open a new world of opportunity and investment.”
Ban Ki-moon, eighth Secretary General of the United Nations – speaking at the 23rd World Energy Congress.
The World Energy Council has been hosting this important event since 1924 and it has been staged in over 20 cities across the world. This year’s 24th World Energy Congress is taking place in Abu Dhabi from 9-12 September 2019. It will bring together both established experts and radical thinkers from across the globe and energy ecosystem.
Under the theme ‘Energy for Prosperity’, the Congress is a global leadership forum. It will define the strategy for a collaborative, sustainable and innovative energy future that enables societal, commercial and community prosperity.
World Energy Academy
The World Energy Academy is the Council’s widely respected capacity building programme that informs and prepares global energy leaders to successfully manage the energy transition. Designed and delivered at a national level, it provides energy professionals with a clear understanding of global energy systems and critical decisions impacting their decisions.
World Energy Leaders’ Summit
The World Energy Leaders’ Summit is a series of high-level events specifically for top global energy leaders. These exclusive events aim to spark dialogue on the critical issues affecting the energy sector and provide an opportunity to share best practice and consider possible solutions to accelerate energy transition. Participation is by invitation only.
Start Up Energy Transition Awards
The annual Start Up Energy Transition (SET100) Award, run in partnership with the German Energy Agency (dena), is an international competition for start-ups and young companies worldwide who are working on ideas affecting global energy transition and climate change.
With innovation at the heart of the Council’s agenda, this competition which sits alongside a Tech festival, is the perfect platform to identify innovators and boost capabilities for energy transition.
“Whether it’s making e-mobility affordable for developing countries by converting motorcyles to electric ones and offering battery loans, or developing bamboo briquettes for clean cooking, these start-ups demonstrate that experimentation is key as we grapple with the many pathways that lead to successful energy transition.”
