For almost a century, the triennial World Energy Congress has provided a unique space for the global energy community to convene in a host city and engage in strategic dialogue on critical developments in the energy sector.

The global flagship event of the World Energy Council, the Congress represents all sectors of the energy system and adjacent industries with over 5,000 delegates. 24th World Energy Congress:Abu Dhabi

At the 24th World Energy Congress - held 9-12 September 2019 under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates – over 18,000 attendees from 146 countries gathered in the capital of the United Arab Emirates to discuss the future of the energy transition under the theme of New Visions of Energy for Prosperity.

As the first World Energy Congress to be hosted by a Middle Eastern country, this event represents a significant milestone. Not only is the region a major energy player, it is also undergoing critical transition efforts to sustainable energy


World EnergyLeaders’ Summit

Each year, the World Energy Congress hosts the World Energy Leaders' Summits, the premier gatherings for government ministers and CEOs of major energy companies. These invitation-only roundtables provide a credible space for energy leaders to exchange insights, share best practices and identify challenges.


Future EnergyLeaders Congress

Every three years, the Future Energy Leaders’ annual gathering coincides with the World Energy Congress. This Future Energy Leaders’ Congress provides an opportunity to explore critical energy issues, network with peers and learn from high-level speakers including policymakers, industry leaders and carefully selected energy experts.

25th World Energy Congress:St. Petersburg

Hosted by the Russian Federation and organised by The Roscongress Foundation in partnership with the World Energy Council, the 25th World Energy Congress will be held in 2022 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The 25th World Energy Congress will provide a platform for facilitating international dialogue between all parties with an interest in the development of the energy market, and enable representatives from around the globe to come together to solve the key challenges facing the industry.


World EnergyCongress History

The origins of the World Energy Congress date back to shortly after the First World War, when visionary Scotsman Daniel Dunlop decided to bring together leading energy experts to discuss current and emerging energy issues. With editions all over the globe, the World Energy Congress has since become a stage for the global energy sector.


Past Congresses

The World Energy Congress has grown and evolved for a century to maintain its status as the global setting for the energy community to convene in a host city and engage in strategic dialogue on critical developments in the energy sector. 

Under the theme of “Embracing New Frontiers”, the 23rd World Energy Congress 23rd World Energy Congress was held in Istanbul, Turkey from 9 –13 October 2016. Co-hosted by the President of Turkey and the World Energy Council, the event will welcome 10,000 delegates from across the energy spectrum to address critical developments in the energy sector.

The 23rd World Energy Congress took place at a moment of critical transition in the energy industry and in a world of extraordinary change.

The 22nd World Energy Congress was held in Daegu, Korea (Rep. of) from 13-17 October 2013. The theme of the Congress is “Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Today.” The Congress in Daegu attracted over 7,500 delegates from 123 countries and included more than 50 government ministers.
