Our role as a credible, responsible and impartial value-adding “global voice” for whole energy system movement has never been more critical.

Kazakhstan Member Committee

Kazakhstan is a member of the World Energy Council through the KAZENERGY Association. The KAZENERGY Association unites more than 50 major players in the oil, gas and energy business – extracting, transporting, servicing, geophysical, uranium-producing and other companies. The Association was established as an independent non-commercial union of legal entities, which is challenged to promote creation of favorable conditions for the dynamic and sustainable development of the fuel and energy sector of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

KAZENERGY represents the interests of its members in executive and legislative bodies of state authority and administration, implements purpose-oriented programs in support of entrepreneurship and investment attraction, professional education and training, executes researches and analysis, participates in projects of interagency and international cooperation.

Being an organization that broadly represents the energy interests of the country, the Association is in a position to serve as the World Energy Council Member Committee in Kazakhstan. Chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Association for the Development of the Energy Sector is the Chairman of Kazakhstan's Committee of the World Energy Council.

Sergey Katyshev is the Secretary of the Kazakhstan Member Committee of the World Energy Council. Hewas born in 1962 in the city of Kurgan, and graduated from Almaty Power Engineering Institute with a specialization of - “Electrical Power Systems and Networks”. He has a PhD (Engineering and Economics) and has become an Associated Professor. He has been a Senior Lecturer and Associated Professor at the Chair of Electrical Power Systems and Networks of Almaty Power Engineering Institute. In 1994, he became the Senior Specialist – Academic Secretary of the Council for Science and Engineering, Head of Scientific-and-Technical Progress Section of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He then became Head of Scientific-and-Technical Progress Section of Electric Power Industry Department of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and has since worked as the Head of the Strategic Planning Office at Development Department, Managing Director, Head of Projects Management Department – Adviser to the Chairman of Management Board of “Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company” JSC.
